About the event

This presentation will explore the various ways that composers have written pieces for the piano interpreting Operatic music.  The piano, with its unique technical facility, can ornament vocal lines with much more technical complexity than the human voice, allowing for rambles and flights of rhapsodic fantasy.  The piano pieces played by Jean-Yves Thibaudet will be coupled with wonderful Arias sung by great singers, giving you the pleasure of hearing original vocal selections alongside their pianistic transcriptions.  You will also hear how Chopin was influenced by the Bel Canto style, incorporating many of its vocal characteristics into his piano melodies. Some additional “surprise” performances will complete this diverse experience!

Opera Talks now cost $10.
