About the event

Opera Educator Lou Barrella presents Opera Talk: The “Love Triangle” Trios of Giuseppe Verdi

Giuseppe Verdi was a master of interpreting human experiences through music.  In many of his Operas the love relationship between a Soprano and Tenor is hindered by a jealous other, whether a Mezzo Soprano, Baritone or Bass.  These “love triangles” usually end tragically which allowed the Maestro to compose exciting trios that relate to the characters’ interactions and struggles.  In this presentation, you will hear and enjoy six of these special ensembles, two each from Aida, Ernani, and Il Trovatore.  George Bernard Shaw said that “Opera is when a Tenor and a Soprano want to make love and are prevented from doing so by a Baritone!”
