Steve DeMaio was a trustee, artistic director and benefactor whose vision and guidance brought Opera at Florham to a level of excellence for which we are eternally grateful. He not only supported OaF’s annual Vocal Competition as director and chief jurist but provided the first prize of $5,000 from The Gerda Lissner Foundation, as its President. He directed and financially supported our opera presentations and the memorable 35th Anniversary Gala in 2017.
Steve DeMaio was a generous supporter of the opera world in general and young vocal artists, in particular. He served as president of the Gerda Lissner Foundation in New York City, an organization which supported young opera singers in their opera careers. He first came to OaF when he accompanied legendary Met opera star, Licia Albanese, to OaF’s Vocal Competition, where they served as Jurists. They both were dear friends of the late Violetta DuPont, OaF’s co-founder and benefactor.
Steve DeMaio died on May 28, 2020. We salute him for his innumerable contributions to opera and hold him forever in our hearts.
